First, if you have not already read our popular blog about gift-worthy wine, you should.
For this list, we polled our team for unique ideas - maybe you find something on this list that's perfect... at the very least, this list will spur your creative juices. In no particular order:
- Double Wall Tumbler Glass Cup (still time to order)
If your office is like mine, then a very large percentage of your coworkers drink tea or coffee. While consuming beverages in ceramic, metal, or plastic cups get the job done, the scientifically-superior container is the double-walled glass cup. Techies will appreciate the improved consumption efficiency, marketing folks will appreciate the style, and everyone will appreciate the 75% reduction in burned hands and tongues.
- Gift a Flaviar.com membership (literally last minute idea!!!)
Falviar is a website for worldly enthusiasts of fine spirits, which includes a quarterly curated tasting kit of their choosing. A six-month membership (two quarterly tastings) is $120, and includes access to an online e-commerce store, an informative blog that any enthusiast would appreciate, access to the “vault” of fine/rare bottles (especially whiskys), and an online organizer for your home bar inventory. Or, are you looking for a good gift bottle recommendation? Sparkhound’s internal Scotch whisky tasting host recommends Highland Park 12 ($60-$70) or The Balvenie Caribbean Cask ($80-$90), or, for American bourbon, try Maker’s Mark 46 ($40-$50) or Angel’s Envy ($50-$60).
- DonorsChoose.org (literally last minute idea!!!)
For that person who has everything, consider the warm fuzzy feeling of a donation credit to DonorsChoose.org or a donation in their name. Donorschoose.org is a site that helps classrooms and teachers “crowdfund” projects, such as cool classroom technology for students K-12, or, as is the case in many classrooms, basic classroom tech for high poverty % schools, like smartboards, audio devices, laptops, printers, activity centers, etc. Perhaps identify and donate to a cool school project in your gift recipient’s neighborhood public school, and follow-up with the handmade thank you notes that the classroom will send you. (Humble Brag: Since 2014 the Sparkhound Foundation has donated $6000 to dozens of successfully crowdfunded classroom projects, impacting 7000+ students.)
- Digital Notebooks (still time to order!)
Boogie Board $15.99 This would be a great little note taker for going into meetings without having to bring a lot with you. You don’t have to worry about pens or pencils, and you don’t have to worry about paper. The Boogie Board lets you erase what you wrote with the touch of a button and retake more notes later.
Rocketbook Wave Smart Notebook $21.25 Alternatively, I’ve seen people using these Smart Notebooks.
- Plantronics BACKBEAT Fit Headphones
$75-120 (you still have time!)
THESE are the headphones! For the Runner, Cyclist or just walker that wants tunes ♪♪ and wants to be safe – Plantronics BACKBEAT Fit Headphones. Why? Because they are designed for ease of use, waterproof and safe. When running (not sure why you would do that) or cycling (now we’re talking), the open ear design allows you to hear cars behind you or people next to you. Overcome shipping woes - you can find these at your local Target, BestBuy etc
- Additional favorite ideas:
- Bluetooth Speaker - once you have one, you can never not have one!
- Anything NERF - an office favorite
- Amazon Echo Spot - but make sure to require a password for Amazon purchases or else you will keep getting cases upon cases of paper towels delivered to your home on a weekly basis as a co-worker did via his unprotected Echo Spot here in the Birmingham office ;)
Thank you, Sam, John, Mike, Kevin, Michael, William and Mike for the ideas!
